Okay, happy
National Lipstick Day
may not exist for any significant non-marketing purposes (sorry,
lipstick devotees of the Internet), but hey, we'll take any chance we
get to publicly profess our love for the perfect red that never lets us
down or the barely-there nude that completes our everyday look. Scroll
down to read Fashionista editors' love letters to their go-to lipsticks.

I rarely leave the house without some sort of balm, tint or stain on my
lips — but I generally save the highly-pigmented red and hot-pink
lipsticks for nights out or special occasions. For over two years, I’ve
carried this formula in my bag at (almost) all times: it’s almost as
moisturizing as a balm, but it leaves a very sheer, natural mauve tint
that helps my everyday beauty look seem a bit more polished and put
together. I have gone through multiple tubes… and once screamed at a
giant security guard at a concert for confiscating it because he thought
I was using it to smuggle in drugs. (I was not.)

I'm not really a lipstick person, and unless it's a
really
fancy occasion, won't put anything on my lips that I can't apply super
quickly and without a mirror. I also hate shiny/sparkly things so lip
gloss is out of the question. Basically, Glossier's Generation G — which
provides a natural-looking, matte wash of color — is the lipstick of my
dreams. And as soon as I found out that my style/life icon
Sofia Coppola was a fan of Crush, I knew exactly what shade to get. It's now the only thing I'll put on my lips besides balm.
Tyler McCall, Deputy Editor
For a while, I was loyal to my bright-red lipstick, which is still a
no-fail, go-to in any situation where I need to look instantly polished.
But last winter, at the Burberry Beauty counter at Saks, I found a new
love: This deep, oxblood matte lipstick. It's not so dark as to make me
look #goth, and I never get more compliments than when I wear this
shade. And the matte isn't drying
at all. Is it possible to be in love with a lipstick?
