As winter continues to creep in, our daily outfits are slowly becoming a hodgepodge of everything we own.
Layering for survival has become the top priority — often leaving very little peeking out from underneath our parkasand blanket scarves. As always, we rely on a bit of color on our lips to look pulled together underneath all of that fabric. This season, a bevy of new lipstick trends have popped up, from deep, dark goth hues to the oh-so-'90s brown shades that Kate Moss and Liv Tyler favored throughout the decade (and that, somehow, we have Kylie Jenner to thank for bringing back from the dead).
Here is the play-by-play on the trends (and products) you'll be needing this season.

GOTHIC VIBES

While you may not listen to The Cure on a daily basis, deep, dark lipstick hues are so in this season. Ranging from dark berries to jet-black, this shade is surprisingly wearable for all skin tones — if you're not afraid of turning some heads.

METALLIC MOUTHS

'90S BROWN HUES

There are some things that should never come back from the '90s – butterfly clips, skinny eyebrows, hair tendrils – but brown lipstick is definitely not one of them. The trend toes the line between a neutral and a statement lip in such a flawless way that it is an easy "starter" lip color — plus, our motto is alwaysto do as Kate Moss does.

MATTE NEUTRALS

Thanks to the Kardashians, the matte neutral lip is here to stay — you literally can't scroll through your Instagram feed without seeing at least a few nude pouts. The trick to mastering this look without completely washing yourself out is to find a nude shade with rosy tones if you have a light skin tone, or opting for a caramel-hued nude if your skin is darker.
