Did Michael Kors Knock Off Shrimps's Recognizable Striped Coat?

It's often said that there's no such thing as an original idea anymore — in fashion or otherwise — and some weeks, that rings especially true. On Tuesday, for instance, Skechers filed a lawsuit against Steve Madden that claims the latter footwear brand knocked off Skechers's patented "Go Walk" sneakers. 

Unfortunately, these sorts of copycat maneuvers occur all the time (see: Nasty Gal and Balmain, Nasty Gal and Alexander Wang, Nasty Gal and Céline), especially between high-low designer pairings. Now, is faux-fur British label Shrimps the latest to get its designs knocked off — and blatantly so?

Yesterday, former Fashionista editor Faran Krentcil pointed us in the direction of one very familiar Michael Michael Kors topper that looks nearly identical to Shrimps's signature Dulcie coat. The original Shrimps creation (now available for $939 at MyTheresa, among other retailers) has just three stripes, while the Michael Michael Kors version ($370.36 at Farfetch) has four. 

In its three-year lifespan, the Shrimps coat has quickly become a bona fide street style staple, with high-profile owners ranging from Kate Foley to Natalie Massenet.
