SOMEHOW, TYLER DOESN'T OWN ANY BASIC BLACK PANTS

Wilfred Jallade Pant, $125, available at Aritzia.
I am in the middle of a real style crisis. Its origins are unknown, but essentially I've decided I hate everything that I own, that I've been a slave to trends for too long and that I need to start over from scratch.
It's a great place to be when you're also working with a, shall we say, limited budget.
Rather than throw out my entire closet, I've decided to start thinking about fall and picking up more basic pieces I can wear with the things I already have. For reasons also unbeknownst to me, I'm on a huge '90s-era Gwyneth Paltrow kick, so I'm using that as inspiration on my shopping quest. Somehow, I do not own a single pair of simple black pants; black jeans, yes, but they feel too casual. I put out an ask for the best source for high-waisted, cropped black pants and several people — including Alyssa — recommended I try Aritzia.
I'm really into Wilfred's Jallade style. With espadrilles and a billowy, short-sleeved button down, they would be very Gwyneth in "The Talented Mr. Ripley"; with a tank top, leather jacket and Converse sneakers, they would be very Gwyneth in paparazzi shots with Brad Pitt. And even if my love for Gwyneth fades between now and cooler temperatures, black pants are just a great staple to have in my wardrobe for when my next style crisis inevitably hits.
